Thanks for the update JD - sure wish more people would follow your example and post things like this...the way to effect crime prevention is to increase awareness and knowledge.
As you said, the police try but are not always able to respond. If more people understood their invitation to crime when they make such seemingly innocent actions like leaving garage doors open during the day, they might change their ways and force crime to find another place to target.
Hope you can make it to the semi-annual meeting and share, with everybody, your experiences today and your efforts to educate everyone by adding the info to this Message Board.

Suspicious Activity on Embudito South of Comanche
About 1:30 this afternoon (8/24/09) two car loads of young men pulled up, got out of their cars, went down into the culvert between 3409 and 3501 Embudito and were down there for about 1 hour. I called 242-COPS and they were to send someone out but they left before the police arrived. I gave them basic descriptions of the vehicles but was unable to get license plate numbers. I also called the sub-station and they said will
watch the area.
This has been a problem over the years and makes all of us around here very nervous
as you might imagine. The police have always been called in the past but it's been very difficult to get the officers to come when anyone is down there. City workers have pulled furniture and who knows what else out of the culvert. Last year there was an explosion that shook the houses adjacent to it. Fires have been set and graffiti has been sprayed on the walls. We don't know what they do down there but it's doubtful that they're up to anything good.
If you or someone you know walks along there, please let them know and be careful yourselves.
